How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, GAIL'S has donated surplus food, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

London, UK

We are SHP (Single Homeless Persons), a charity providing supported housing and specialist services to people experiencing homelessness and complex needs. This service operates from a hostel in Hackney, supporting up to 10 residents with a staff team of 8. Our residents are adults who have experienced homelessness alongside drug and alcohol addiction, and who require structured, consistent support to stabiles their lives and move towards recovery and independent living. Our work focuses on harm reduction, recovery support, and practical life skills, helping residents rebuild stability, dignity, and independence. Charity / Organization Details Organisation: SHP (Single Homeless Persons) Charity / Company Number: [287779] Location of Service: Finsbury Park Hackney, London Service Type: Supported housing for people with complex needs. Client Group: Adults experiencing homelessness with drug and alcohol addiction How We Identify and Support Service Users Residents are referred into our service through formal local authority and professional referral pathways. All residents placed with us meet the criteria of homelessness combined with substance misuse support needs. Once placed, residents receive ongoing support from staff to help stabiles their circumstances, engage with treatment and support services, and work towards long-term recovery and reintegration into the community. Food Distribution Model We operate a shared and supervised food model within the hostel: We have a main communal fridge that all residents can access. Food is distributed fairly and equally between residents. We take into account any known allergies or dietary requirements. Staff oversee food access and stock to ensure safe and fair distribution. This approach ensures dignity, fairness, and consistent access to food for everyone in the service. Impact of Food Donations Food donations make a direct and meaningful difference to our residents’ daily lives. Many of our residents struggle with addiction, and any money they have is often prioritized towards substances rather than food. Donations help to ensure that: Residents are able to eat every day Basic nutritional needs are met Food insecurity and stress are reduced Residents are better able to focus on recovery and engagement with support In practical terms, food donations help keep our residents nourished, healthier, and more stable while they work towards rebuilding their lives. Do You Charge for Your Service We do not charge residents for food or essential support. Residents are encouraged to pay rent as part of their recovery journey. This helps them rebuild independence, responsibility, and life skills, and supports their transition back into independent living once they are ready.
