Huddersfield Community Fridge
Huddersfield, UK
ABOUT HUDDERSFIELD COMMUNITY FRIDGE Huddersfield Community Fridge is a volunteer-led food redistribution project supporting local residents facing food insecurity while reducing food waste across the area. Since launching in June 2025, we have redistributed well over 100,000 food items, now supporting approximately 250 families each week through our open-access community fridge. Our service is available to everyone - with no referral required - helping ensure that good food reaches people who need it quickly and without barriers. We are equipped to safely handle and redistribute a wide range of surplus food. Our team holds Level 2 Food Hygiene certification and follows established food safety and hygiene practices. All food is sorted and made available to the community promptly, often on the same day it is collected. We operate with a strong and dedicated volunteer team and work in partnership with the local council, schools, and other charities to maximise our reach and impact. In addition to reducing waste, our work helps strengthen community connections by providing a welcoming, respectful space where people can access support with dignity. We are always looking to build partnerships with local retailers and organisations to increase the amount of surplus food we can save and share. Whether you’re a business looking to donate surplus food, or a supporter wanting to get involved, we welcome you to be part of a more sustainable and connected Huddersfield.
