Selby Community Fridge
Selby, UK
Selby Community Fridge is a sociable place where any member of the community can donate, collect or exchange surplus perishable food. We aim to both reduce food waste and provide a space where all locals can share food, support, skills, recipes and more! This project is led and ran by Selby District AVS Research shows that whilst 1 in 5 people struggle to afford food, the annual food waste from households, hospitality, food manufacture, and retail is around 10 million tonnes, at a value of £17 billion and 60% of which could be avoided! The Community Fridge aims to address this by collecting leftover yet nutritional, good, consumable food and then making it freely available on an honesty basis, to Selby residents and community groups. We are open 3 days a week providing surplus food back out to the Community. **KEY QUESTIONS** Q: Do you need a referral to use the Community Fridge? - A: No! Any body can use the Community Fridge.
