Volunteer at Ouseburn Farm to make a sensory garden in the city
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
Volunteer with us to spend a day at our beautiful farm, creating a sensory area for our visitors with special needs. The Ouseburn Farm is an education and training centre that helps people to be the best that they can be. People from all walks of life come together at the farm. Everyone is welcome to venture through the farm gates to watch and feed the animals, stroll around the market garden and orchard, have a bite to eat upstairs and maybe pop into the shop for a souvenir. In our lovely outdoor areas, we provide and teach workshops for school groups. Vulnerable adults with learning disabilities can take part in our inspiring programmes to learn about horticulture, animal care, customer service in the café, cooking and baking, and retail. We also run opportunities to develop practical skills like carpentry, drama, music, photography, arts and crafts. Our farm is always looking for new ways to bring our visitors the therapeutic benefits of being outdoors. Building a sensory garden as part of Spark Something Good will be a massive step in the right direction. During the day, we will transform an unused area into a new exciting sensory space with flowers, a water feature and seating. We'll level the ground, make some eye-catching raised planters and build a tyre pond. Last but not least, we'll add some sensory materials like mirrors and chimes. This will create a calm space for people across the community to reflect and learn.
