We have been running our group for 12 years, organising social activities and making our communal gardens at over 55's scheme look wonderful for everyone to enjoy. We are a social housing scheme with a lot of people on low incomes and everyone is struggling with the cost of living at present, so we are collecting the surplus food to help a little. We also organise seasonal events and we are hoping to start making breakfasts on Fridays soon. The people who benefit from the surplus food and items we collect are mostly older people from our over 55s scheme, our neighbours the Ty Ddewi Residential Home and the wide community. We live in social housing and the surrounding area is also social housing. A new extra care scheme is being build next door to us with 70 apartments for people with additional health and disability needs so they can access our services too. We have collected seeds, plants and compost from our local B&Q and we have had some surplus food / cut flowers / plants donations via Get Growing, which is a run by Wales & West Housing. Our group has won many local and national awards for our work, including Wales-wide awards from Wales & West Housing and TPAS Cymru. We were finalists in a UK-wide award with Sustainable Housing. We partner with the Barry Food Bank and the Penarth Food Hub. We will donate any surplus we cannot use to these projects. We also worth with our landlords Wales & West Housing, who help share surplus food amongst their schemes and estates. As well as surplus food, we would be very grateful of cut flowers, gardening plants, seeds, bulbs, broken compost, materials, tools and equipment. Seeking volunteers - we would also be very glad of help with the heavy gardening work if any volunteers were willing, as many of us find it difficult now. We would also be very grateful for any items we could raffle at our seasonal social events to help raise funds for our projects.

Bath FoodCycle, a local hub of the national Foodcycle charity, is run entirely by volunteers. It aims to reduce food waste, food poverty and social isolation by collecting surplus food from local retailers and cooking a weekly three-course, vegetarian meal for people in need within the local Community. We are keen to support and build the community we serve in Bath. The project has been running since Nov. 2012 and has transformed over 6 tonnes of surplus food into more than 4000 three-course meals. Sainsbury’s Stores at Green Park and Odd Down have supported Bath Foodcycle with weekly surplus food donations since the operation started up in Bath. The Bath Fine Cheese Company have been regular donors of surplus products since Spring 2015. Morrisons London Road came on stream in Spring 2016, and M&S Weston Lock since their opening in Summer 2016. As well as our Community Meal, we also provide training opportunities for people to gain skills, qualifications and experience in a range of areas, such as catering, event management and PR & Communications, and have provided references for Graduates looking to go into mental health care, for people re-training to go into the catering industry and for recovering individuals to get work experience.
