How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Sainsbury's has donated surplus food and money, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

Granville Community Kitchen

London, UK

Granville Community Kitchen is empowering community through food – working on the front lines in an area of high deprivation and health inequalities, many families and people are experiencing poverty and limited access to good food. It has a pay it forward philosophy; those who can afford it pay more and contribute to meals for those who cannot. Suggested donations for meals are kept at a low price; currently it is £3 an adult and £1 for children. Most of all, the kitchen never turns anyone away and often people volunteer in exchange for a meal, learning valuable skills and knowledge about food from seed to plate. Everyone who works in the community kitchen does so on a voluntarily basis, and are encouraged to share their skills and knowledge about food, film, health, gardening and community. Granville Community Kitchen is leading this initiative based on the belief that ‘everyone has the right to fresh, good quality, healthy food that does not cost the earth’. All our food is sourced from local urban agriculture and harvesting projects, micro food producers, donations, and other ethical food businesses. “Good food is central to weaving together family, community, health, history, heritage, culture and the environment. Urban Food Routes support made it possible for the Granville Community Kitchen to create a vibrant tapestry that has as its core ‘good food for all’.” Continued development for the project lies within building the capacity of the community and volunteers Dee Woods, Project Coordinator

London Community Church

London, UK

Streets Food Project is a food parcel charity run by London Community Church. When our high street community cafe became a casualty of the pandemic, we started a food project. In the first 12 months of the crisis, we distributed over 5000 food parcels (the equivalent of over 27,000 meals). Since July 2020 to mid July 2022, we have distributed over 9,700 food parcels (the equivalent of over 48,000 meals). Our aim: to show God's unconditional love to those in need. Since then we have connected in partnership with other local groups including Camden Council, O2 Shopping Centre, Holy Trinity Brompton and JW3. We run the pop-up food project every Wednesday in the O2 Shopping Centre's community venue. Local volunteers give a little time each week. We create a friendly space to drop in and collect a food parcel. In addition we refer people to council services. We offer deliveries for the housebound. While many have been able to pick up where they left off before the pandemic, others are still affected. Camden Council connects us with those who, for whatever reason, are finding everyday life a struggle and we are privileged to be able to offer food parcels. It's a small gesture to show we all care very much about what happens to them.
