UKHarvest is a leading environmental and social impact charity dedicated to preventing food waste and food insecurity. By enriching and educating our communities we help nurture those most food insecure, to live well, age well and to help combat social isolation. From our food rescue operation to our education programmes, to our award winning Nourish Hub, every initiative we offer brings people together for the most meaningful impact. We collect perishable food from places like supermarkets, hotels, wholesalers, farmers, stadiums, catering companies, shopping centres, cafes and more, delivering it for free to charities and individuals throughout the UK. We use the food as a medium to engage communities and teach people to reduce household food waste so everyone can join our mission!

While thousands of Londoners go hungry each day, safe, healthy and usable food is being disposed of as waste. City Harvest collects this nutritious surplus food from all segments of the food industry including restaurants, grocers, manufacturers, wholesalers, hotels and caterers. WHO DO WE DELIVER TO? We help vulnerable people throughout London. City Harvest regularly delivers high quality, nourishing food to organisations that provide meals to vulnerable people including homeless shelters, soup kitchens, centres for veterans, and organisations that assist people with alcohol or drug addictions. WHAT IMPACT DO WE MAKE? We rescue almost two tons of food weekly. This food helps organisations serve thousands of healthy meals each week and reduce their annual grocer bills, freeing up funds that can be reinvested in other vital support services. Some of the food we rescue is diverted from going to landfill where it would release gases toxic to the environment. HOW DO FOOD DONORS BENEFIT? We rescue food in a safe, easy, reliable way. We make it simple for food donors to get their nutritious food to desperate people and reduce their waste collection costs. Customers prefer to patronise sustainable restaurants and employees experience a huge morale boost from giving to those in need. Food donors appear daily on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds. The Sustainable Restaurant Association encourages food donations to City Harvest. With one new van we'll be able to deliver 135 tons of food in one year. This translates to 270,000 meals to people in need.

1 in 5 people are living below the poverty line in the UK which means today in Chichester District their are families and individuals struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis such as redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill can mean going hungry. Everyday parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating. Since opening September 2012 Chichester District Foodbank has provided 3 day emergency food parcels for those in crisis. The foodbank has also offered support in the form of signposting clients to agencies that can provide them with further help out of their crisis e.g. debt counselling from Christians against Poverty. 61% of the district is rural therefore in our second year we set up 3 satellite foodbank centres in Selsey, Midhurst and Petworth so clients in those areas could easily access our services and not have to travel to Chichester to the main centre.
