Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm is dedicated to brightening children’s lives by providing unforgettable stays with valuable learning experiences and much needed respite. Our supported children are predominately aged between 7 and 11, and come from backgrounds of challenge and disadvantage, some suffer abuse and neglect, others live in poverty, many act as a young carer for a parent, sibling or other relative. Children are referred to us by schools, voluntary sector, and other agencies, ensuring we have the full support of their family/guardians. A stay at Lineham Farm is filled with adventure, fun and learning, all in a safe and happy environment – childhood as it should be. Many children who visit the centre have never experienced riding a bike, learning in the outdoors and equally many of the children that come to us have never been encouraged, praised or nurtured. They’ve never experienced safety, independence or fun. This is exactly what we achieve through our learning and adventures at Lineham Farm. Our children deserve the very best and ensuring they have these experiences is essential to their future learning and development later in life. At the centre young people take part in all types of activities, low ropes; climbing; bouldering; orienteering; mountain biking; animal care; environmental work; night-lines and bushcraft. During their stay children are provided with fresh, nutritious, home cooked meals. For many Lineham Farm is a sanctuary, a place where they can reflect, feel safe, have fun and learn new skills. All the activities at the centre are a chance for the children to enjoy childhood as it should be, spend time outdoors and with nature and learning new physical skills which they wouldn't otherwise get the opportunity to do so. 20% of children living in Leeds live in poverty and in some areas this figure is far higher reaching 55%. Figures show that children living in the most deprived areas of Leeds are 10x more likely to end up in social care than those living in more affluent areas. The activities we provide at Lineham Farm, working alongside social support teams, and partnering schools has a proven positive effect on how families function and remain together as a unit, leading to happier, brighter, and more settled children’s lives. The charity impact can clearly be seen through the families directly and the feedback from our partner organisations. The observation from schools is always positive with noticeable changes in things like behaviour, confidence, and engagement. The work we do helps give the children a new perspective, we teach them new skills, instill positive values and give them the encouragement to reach their full potential, and show them how to make a positive contribution to the to the lives of others and themselves. Each year we work with over 2000 children!
