The Richmond Café Project was started by Richmond Craigmillar Church with the aim of creating a place where people could meet and enjoy low cost food. The Café (now called The Bristo Room) has recently been renovated and is open on Thursdays from 9:30am to 11am. On Thursdays the hall behind the café is open for Fair Share where people pay £5 and are able to pick up 15 items of food (From 10am to 11am) on the other side of the hall from Fair Share are Nearly New stalls with second hand clothes. Both Fair Share and the Nearly New are open to everyone in the community. These initiatives are based on recycling and reducing food waste. Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with foodbanks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. We operate a food bank in the NE of Edinburgh and mainly in the Leith area and provide food to those in need through our network of churches in Leith.

We turn surplus food into healthy meals for those who need them. Since April 2020, we've provided over 1.8 million meals free of charge. In its most simple terms, we turn surplus food into nourishing meals for people that need them, free of charge and without judgement. By making our service available to all, without the need to prove need, we reach some of the most marginalised people across Edinburgh. We believe nourishing food is a basic human right and there should be no barriers to accessing it. Our core service is the delivery of a 'Day Pack', which comprises a day’s worth of nourishing meals. Community volunteers then package these meals ready for delivery across Edinburgh.
