Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Leeds Central SDA Church, has a Foodbank Soup and More Foodbank & Community Kitchen. The area of Little London and Woodhouse where the church and Foodbank is located is a multi cultural area, made up of families and a large population of international students. No referrals are necessary everyone in need is welcome to attend. Food parcels are free. Food donations from Marks and Spencer are used to provide food parcels and prepare soup and hot meals for the community to eat in or takeaway. The opening times for Soup and More each week are as follows: Wednesday 3-5pm Saturday 1-2pm for Emergency Food Parcels and a hot meal is also available on request. The Foodbank also supports a number of community groups and hostels in our area to ensure that no food is wasted Our team of volunteers have Level 2 Food Hygiene certificates and support the work of the Foodbank , providing a range of additional services, and referrals to other mainstream providers.

Working to get the homeless off the street to a stable enviroment and way of life they are able to uphold, with support from the Homeless Street Angels. We believe that homeless and marginalised individuals are capable of change and will only achieve their full potential when offered a safe, supportive , empowering environment - it is our vision to provide such an environment and meaningful activities which will help reverse the spiral of homelessness. Hot food and clothing is taken around the city whatever the weather to give each person food, drinks and clothing as well as toiletries etc. we also support families who are struggling with food parcels and essentials. Every day, people go hungry in the UK for all kinds of reasons, from changes and delays in the benefits system to redundancy to receiving an unexpectedly large bill for a major repair. A 3 day supply of food can makes a big difference to a family or person in crisis. However we know it takes more than food to end hunger. That’s why we are pleased to be working with Trussell to End the need for foodbanks in the UK. We know their goal to end the need for food banks is ambitious, but by working Together for Change, we believe it is achievable. We aim to provide compassionate, practical support to people in crisis to tackle the root causes that lock people into poverty and build people’s resilience so they are less likely to need a food bank in the future. Leeds North and West Foodbank relies on the support of local people, businesses and communities to help alleviate hunger and hardship in our community and to raise awareness of the causes of food bank use. Food donations Non-perishable in-date food is donated by the public at places across the local community, such as schools, churches and businesses, as well as supermarket collection points. It is then sorted and packed into boxes by volunteers, ready to be given to people in need. Food vouchers Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, schools and social workers identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. They can exchange this voucher for a foodbank parcel of three days’ nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food. The help we give… Our foodbanks offers a lot more than food. Our volunteers offer a listening ear to clients over a warm drink, and signpost people to other charities and agencies who can help resolve the underlying cause of the crisis. We also have money advice and debt advisers at our food bank centres to support people. There are many ways to help Leeds North and West Foodbank as a volunteer from helping at collection points, to stock-taking and audits, to helping us refurbish our premises. We can continue supporting people in crisis thanks to passionate people giving their time to help their neighbours.
