Argos Wellingborough (Inside Sainsbury's)

We are a Foodbank operating as a branch of Restore Northampton. We started in October of 2015 as we saw there was and still is a great need to help those who find themselves in difficult financial circumstances. We have a dedicated Team of volunteers who come each week and willingly give their support. Our objectives are to help Members of the public who have hit hard times, they are able to come and receive food parcels to help them out, not only food but also personal items soap, shampoo etc. kitchen cleaning products, baby products and end of line stuff that shops give us which can range from a pair of shoes to frying pan. We open each Monday From 12..00pm to 2.00pm excluding bank holidays. We operate from The Seventh-day Adventist Church, 74 Highlands Avenue, Spinney Hill, Northampton NN3 6BQ We Are a foodbank so we give food parcels to those who fall on hard time and are in need food. We do not receive any food donations from anywhere else other than what Neighbourly have arranged for us, and we are thankful for the fresh produce we collect from ALDI Weston Favel, Northampton each week (See Photos below) We haven't any local publicity as far as we know, but the neighbours know that we run a foodbank. We operate as a branch of Restore Northampton and they are a registered charity and have all the legal documents required. We have a lot of dealings with Northampton Hope Centre since we have been running the foodbank. We are Members of FAAWN (Food Aid Alliance West Northants)

Every day people in the UK go hungry, for a variety of reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. A simple box of food makes a big difference, and foodbanks help to prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to a foodbank. Food is also collected at supermarkets. Volunteers sort the food to check that it’s in date, then pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need. Weston Favell Centre Food Bank is run by a group of local churches on the eastern district of Northampton, an area of multiple deprivation. The food bank used to give out food parcels for about 500 people per month before the pandemic, but we saw a dramatic increase in need, and that demand has stayed high. We usually give out food parcels for around 1400 people per month now, and we also had to introduce a delivery service for people shielding and isolating. Any support you can give would be hugely appreciated.

Many people in our society are vulnerable & grapple with complex needs. many agencies exist to meet those needs but gaps exist in the provision. Our unique role is to fill some gaps especially gaps in time & space. Time to talk & be listened to; time to help unravel complex problems & identify practical steps towards solutions. Space that welcomes, is comfortable, un-pressurized & non-judgmental.
