Wirral Hospice St John's

Wirral, UK

Wirral Hospice St John’s is an adult Hospice based on the Wirral and has provided over 42 years of caring for our local community. We provide care and support for patients with cancer, heart, dementia, liver and kidney disease, respiratory and neurological conditions where curative treatment is no longer possible. This is provided by a 16 bed In-Patient Unit, Outpatient Clinics, Wellbeing Centre and a ‘Hospice at Home’ service. The Hospice provides medical and nursing care, interventional pain service, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, complementary therapies, psychological care, pharmacy, bereavement care and pastoral / spiritual care. We are often called a small Hospice with a big heart because we passionately want to make a difference to the quality of people's lives; enabling them to live rather than exist. We are trusted by people when they are at their most vulnerable. Each year we support around 1,000 local adults & children through our varied services & we constantly look to develop new services as the needs of our community change. The aim of Wirral Hospice St John’s is to warmly welcome and support people with progressive illness which has failed to respond to curative treatment, into the quiet calm of a highly professional, caring atmosphere which ‘comforts always’ both them and those who are important to them. Our nurses, health and social care professionals and over 500 volunteers support our patients and their families. Our charity plays a crucial role in the Wirral community and exists largely through local support and fundraising. Today, donations mean more than ever; we are a charity which means all our services are provided free of charge, so over 80% of our running costs come from donations.
