FoodShare Pantry Llantwit Major & St Athan
Llantwit Major, UK
Glamorgan voluntary services helps to improve the quality of life of people and communities by supporting volunteers, volunteering opportunities and voluntary groups. our role is to provide information, advice and guidance on all aspects of volunteering for both volunteers and recruiting organisations. The FoodShare Pantry was bred out of another project within GVS and grew throughout the Covid pandemic as it was one of the few physical volunteering opportunities that we could provide and it provided a needed and welcome service within the local community. We collect end of day supermarket surplus food, as well as pre-supermarket surplus food and supplement this with donated and purchased food to stock our pantry. Customers pay a weekly £5 fee to choose items from our fridges, freezers and shelves, as well as fresh produce, that is typically 6x the value of what they have paid. Our pantry has become a social hub for the community and an invaluable resource for many. We share healthy and seasonal recipes and partner with local organisations and projects, signposting customers to advice services that may be useful to them.
