Heaton Park Food Pantry

Heaton Park is a small but hugely community focused church that has been working hard to address the food poverty situation in Prestwich, Manchester. In October 2022, the church started a Food Pantry, providing a cheaper food shopping alternative to those in need. It has been hugely successful with around 40 people served every week and increasing. Shoppers can come once a week to shop from a selection of goods including tinned foods, sauces and condiments, cereals, tea and coffee supplies as well as household cleaning and personal hygiene products. There's no referral necessary - we want to make this process as simple and friendly as possible. A warm space is also open in the adjacent hall where members of the public can enjoy a hot beverage and even some company if they choose. There is also a station in the hall set up for folks who are interested in creative outlets like mindful colouring. We recognise that people from all walks of life use the food pantry and want to meet their needs in this warm space. All of these projects are volunteer ran and donation dependent. The cost of living crisis has affected everyone, and we are doing all that we can to provide a little comfort and food safety for the people of Prestwich.
