The Basement provides twice weekly drop-ins for food to those who are socially excluded or homeless. Many are single, without dependent children, so they come bottom of the housing list. With low confidence and self-esteem, low skills, lack of employment, dependent on drugs and alcohol, poor mental and physical health and insufficient access to appropriate housing, they find it almost impossible to move on with their life. In addition to The Breakfast Club we also offer advice from housing workers, routes into treatment for alcohol and drug dependency and a befriending service – for some, it is the only support they receive. Calderdale has no hostels.

We are a group of volunteers trying to help the homeless and anyone in need within the community. We run every Sunday rain or shine 12-3pm. We supply toiletries Food packs Cakes Hot food Hot n cold drinks Takeaway food Clothes Shoes And some advice n tlc. We run solely on donations and so help from any businesses is so gratefully received xxxxx We feed anywhere between 55-80 per week with numbers growing. Since covid and the first lock down we have been supplying food parcels by a delivery service to our community. We feed up to 300 at the max and around 100 per week at the moment. This is anyone from a single to a family of 8. We work closely with pastoral teams within schools and 25 of our weekly parcels is specifically dropped at local schools for children and the family. We send the kids home at holidays with extras and add in fun worksheets and activities. We supply fresh fruit and veg and some goodies too. We make sure they have toiletries to suit the families and specialise our parcels for allergies and intolerances. We love helping the families and have grown some lovely relationships with them. They look forward to us coming each week and sometimes these families are only getting through with our help.
