Glasgow South West Foodbank (Trussell)
Glasgow, UK
Hello from Glasgow South West Foodbank! We are an independent charity but part of the Trussell network of foodbanks. We offer emergency food support to those experiencing crisis in the south west of Glasgow. Currently, we have Foodbank Centres in five different locations across this part of the city covering most weekdays. People come along, get their food parcel and are able to sit down and have a cup of tea and a chat either with one of our volunteers, with each other or one of the specialist advisors we now have on hand. Opened in December of 2013 we have been around now for over 10 years. Following the Trussell model, we operate on a referral basis and are partnered with a wide and diverse range of Referral Agencies across the city meaning everyone should have access to a local Referral Agency if they need to come along to one of our centres. Run by a small, but dedicated, team of staff and a wonderful group of volunteers we are constantly striving to do and be better. We are taking part in an exciting and transformative project through Trussell at the moment called 'Pathfinder'. This has seen us be able to grow our service to include access to a Money Matters advisor who can provide financial inclusion advice and fuel support and a Community Links worker who can offer support to those attending our service to help them get back on their feet. We are also working hard on expanding the range and variety of foods we provide in our parcel. For example, we're hoping to raise funds for fridges to allow us to provide fresh milk and move away from long life milk. This is being piloted in one of our centres currently and is working well. This follows hot on the heels of us finally moving into our own premises after 10 long years! We found a home at Elderpark Workspace which has enabled us to have a central distribution point, a dedicated office space and allows us room to grow what we're doing, the aforementioned fridges are a perfect example. Sadly, the need for our services continues to climb, with the rising cost of living and the changes the UK Government have made to the benefits and social care sectors. We are currently facing an increase in those accessing our help but a drop in the amount of donations. Which is completely understandable, we are all feeling the effects of the seemingly never ending price increases on food, bills and essentials. We welcome any and all help we can get! No donation is too small and every single one is appreciated. Always up for a chat, you can contact us to find out more about the organisation and/or how you can help us by messaging through Neighbourly, emailing us at info@glasgowsw.foodbank.com or finding us on social media.
