Argos Dereham

Dereham Community Fridge has been launched to give local businesses and individuals a way to donate food that is passed its ‘best by’, but within its ‘use by’ date, that would otherwise be thrown away. Anyone who would like to use the food can come and take items from the fridge for free. There's no paperwork, appointments or referrals. Just come during our weekday opening times of 10am -1pm. Please note doors open at 9.30am to queue and get a free hot drink. The main aims of Dereham Community Fridge are twofold: to reduce food waste and to get surplus food into the hands of those who can use it.

We want to introduce you to The Food Cabin; we are a charity food hub as part of Norfolk Community Foundation’s Nourishing Norfolk Network, and stock a basic range of essentials. Food Cabin supports many local people just about managing with their household budgets. Based in Dereham we are currently reaching just under 500 people who for numerous reasons are feeling the pinch financially. As part of a holistic care model, one of our primary aims is to signpost users to other services. So far, we signposted 42 members to other services including chronic fatigue support, budgeting courses, Anglian Water priority tariffs, mental health support, and Healthy Start cards. 20% of our current service users are refugees, who are particularly vulnerable and unaware of their rights and entitlements, and we are working with other groups to get these established and provide them with multi-faceted support. Kickstart Norfolk is a charity based in Dereham, Norfolk. Starting in 1996 as a non-profit organisation, Kickstart Norfolk became a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee in 2003. Set up to provide an alternative transport service across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Rutland to individuals with a transport need, we are proud to state that since 1996 we have assisted over 9,000 people, with over 5,300 of these going on to secure employment, training or education. Working with multi-agencies, trusts and foundations, Kickstart Norfolk receives over 750 applications per annum and with a fleet of over 300 Honda Vision Mopeds we assist more than 400 applicants on to our moped scheme per year, covering an area of more than 8500 square miles. This has enabled Kickstart Norfolk to become both the largest and only sustainable ‘Wheels to Work’ Charity in the country and we are a proud member of the Chamber of commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses. Due to the current cost of living crisis, in 2021 Kickstart Norfolk was asked to set up, manage and run a community mobile food store. Launched on the 10th May 2022, The Breckland Mobile food Store visits 12 predetermined locations across the Breckland area of Norfolk and to date the store is assisting 1649 household members. The aim of the project is to provide a range of food and hygiene products to members within communities who are struggling with access to affordable and healthy food; face increasing living costs and pressure on household budgets; experiencing other barriers that makes it difficult to access food, such as social isolation. Furthermore, members of project staff and volunteers build relationships with those attending the store and help provide wider support to tackle other barriers and challenges that individuals are facing daily. To further assist service users, the scheme provides free fruit, vegetables and feminine hygiene products, and each shopper also has access to a small food bank. Since the launch of the scheme in may 2022, over £11,500 of free products has been distributed.
