How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Sainsbury's has donated surplus food, money and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

CentrePeace

Paignton, UK

CentrePeace has now been open for 9 years and has become firmly established in the community. We have a free counselling service, offer emotional support, crisis support and signposting where required. We also have free art and craft groups, workshops and holistic therapies. The warm heart and vibrant hub of CentrePeace is our community cafe where we provide affordable, home cooked, nutritious vegetarian lunches. The income from the cafe (and also our in-house charity shop) pays the rent and all the bills so we are able to remain self-sufficient and provide essential support in the community. Our team of volunteers are able to work in the shop and cafe and gain valuable work experience as well as boosting their confidence and self esteem. Many of our regular visitors in the cafe may never normally have the opportunity to have home-cooked food and they have come to depend on our services here. Many friendship groups have been formed over lunch and coffee! These people have often been lonely and isolated and now have a place they can come and feel safe and valued. CentrePeace is open for 6 days a week and is run by a small team of 3 part-time paid staff and a team of volunteers.

Torbay United- YUMbus

Torquay, UK

Torbay United are providing help from locations across Torbay under the YUM Bus Project! YUM stands for YOU+US = MORE and incorporates a social supermarket and food-bank provision. This mobile social supermarket runs from a converted minibus reaching people who might find it hard to access current food support schemes in a fixed location. This project has the full support of Torbay council who are providing funding towards sustainable service provision, and integrates with wider Torbay Food Alliance initiatives . Food items, personal items and household items are stocked, including packet, refrigerated and fresh produce, and even some items specifically for the newly-born and family pets. It works on a renewable membership basis, that is means-tested to ensure those in most need receive the support they require. Individuals may be eligible for a 50% or larger reduction on their food expenses, depending on their eligibility. The model seeks to both enhance dignity during difficult times, as well as avoid dependency on a permanent basis. We would love to serve those who require help! With thanks and love,
