The Story of Community Share originally known as Dorchester Community Kitchen provided food boxes for those who need them. During the Pandemic We sourced surplus and donated food and redistribute it to those who find themselves in short time financial difficulty, or simply need a little extra help. We focused on reaching Carers and Parents with Children with SEND and those who are falling through the gapes during this current crisis. Dorchester Community Kitchen was already in development as the Corona Virus struck. To meet the needs of the emergency we have quickly developed a community orientated food box service for carers, families supporting those with disabilities and Send children. We also focus on the most vulnerable in our community during these unprecedented times. We also support a number of other community groups at this difficult time. In our first 4 weeks of operation we reached some incredible milestones 468 food boxes Over 1400 individuals benefiting from box contents An amazing volunteer team of 30 and growing 51% of recipients identifying as carers 50 plus food packages to the vulnerable and homeless in Dorchester We then rebranded with a new name and a focus to reaching the community. We changed our named to Community Share. We have created 4 community Larders in and around Dorchester helping people, families struggling with food poverty. Braking down the stigma of food poverty by offering non-referral community larders open various times a week in multiple locations so people can help themselves to food without the stigma of jumping through red tape and feeling ashamed to ask for help. # communityshare Sharing is caring, from sharing your food to your time and skills, we are powered by our volunteers and donations, without them we wouldn't be able to do what we do, we've got big plans for the future and we can't wait to share them with you. Keep an eye out on our social media and website for our announcements. Support from community and business has been fantastic, but in these challenging times we still need to keep up with demand. Foodbank serving the people of Chickerell and Southill in Weymouth Dorset. Operating from the football hut lower way Chickerell every Wednesday. We also offer delivery for those unable to access our premises We have been operating since November 2019 Recently we are seeing numbers increasing and donations decreasing as we all feel the effects of this cost of living crisis. We also provide a warm space from October to April which morphs into a cool space from May to September providing free hot refreshments, a place to talk and share experiences. We also can signpost and connect people to CAP, Citizens Advice Housing etc Due to the increase of pensioners using our service we provide a hot roast dinner with pudding and tea/coffee and biscuits in the community room at Marshallsay Court every month from September to June. Feeding approx 45 each time.
