How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Sainsbury's has donated surplus food and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

Rough Sleeping Pathway Hostels (The Registry, Kingway)

Portsmouth, UK

The Rough Sleeping Pathway in Portsmouth is a way that The Society of St James (SSJ) and Portsmouth City Council helps people who are homeless, rough sleeping, or at risk of homelessness. It has two temporary hostels that give different kinds of tailored support to over 80 people. SSJ believes that everyone has a fundamental human right to a safe home and works to end homelessness. The hostels are set up in different buildings to provide support that meets the different needs and preferences of the people staying there. The goal of these temporary homes is to help people gain life skills and access services so they can prepare for independence and move on to more permanent home . SSJ understands that the system for housing people can be "broken" so we walk beside people to navigate it. Providing this kind of support shows a moral responsibility to ensure everyone has a safe and secure place to live. The Rough Sleeping Pathway's size, helping over 80 people, shows a significant effort to tackle homelessness in Portsmouth.

Whatever supermarkets, stores, and retailers can do is turned into a grateful donation to a neighbour in need. This is a response to real people in real-time. No food is banked providing a direct in and out service. We believe if the food is stored then a person in need is not getting any food, hence we provide an instant response and instant impact service. Looprun has access to professional volunteers who carry out a confidential support service to people in need. From homeless shelters, hostels, sheltered housing, care homes, soup kitchens and schools. This is a non voucher, free and confidential service. This means Looprun can reach more people in need with food donations. Anyone that receives a Looprun bag of essential food items is sustained thus creating a loop cycle. All are invited to become part of these sustainable stories in your local community.
