The Sussex Beacon provides specialist hospital care and community support services for people living with HIV in Sussex. Due to breakthroughs in drug treatments the majority of people live well with an HIV+ diagnoses, however the most vulnerable still need support. Whether its with a new diagnoses, a change to a medication regime, recovering from surgery or aging with HIV, our services aim to increase independence and improve physical and mental health and wellbeing. Our 10 bed Hospital Unit provides treatment and rehabilitation for a range of HIV associated conditions; our nursing and care team also provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and end of life care. Community Support Services take a more holistic approach and support people through peer mentoring, one to one casework and group support work designed to build confidence, reduce isolation and HIV stigma. We also support women and families living with HIV and offer mindfulness and exercise classes designed to reduce anxiety and help cope with chronic pain. The surplus food is a big help for our service users we can make small bags up for them to take home and anything left over our chef uses in the kitchen. .

We are a nursery who receive Government funding for some 2 and all 3 year old children. We feed our children 3 main meals and 2 snacks per day. We give out surplus food to our parents to encourage healthy choices at home as well as in our nursery. We also support our local foodbank.

We are a small community space run by local non-profit group Coldean Community Organisation. We provide a warm friendly space that is free to use for anyone. We offer free Wi-Fi, hot drinks and second-hand children's clothing, as well as a community pantry for food provision and hygiene products. We have fresh food available weekly on a pay-what-you-can basis, including BrightLight food surplus on Fridays in collaboration with BrightStore. Opening hours currently Monday 9-12 and 2-4 and Fridays 9-11 and 2-4. Fridays are when the majority of the surplus food is available. Follow Facebook group for weekly updates.
