Whitstable, UK
Westmeads is a happy, vibrant and inclusive community school in the heart of Whitstable. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum for children from the ages of 4-7. We are an integral part of the vibrant community and like to take part in all aspects of life within the town, encouraging our children to think for themselves and grow in independence. Our inspirational curriculum actively promotes our values and provides our children with a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences. We have a very mixed intake including many families who struggle with the everyday costs of feeding everyone and keeping their homes and their children clean. We already support our families in many ways, but because of the budget constraints so many schools have now, are unable to offer direct support to those families in ways that would help them most. We would love to be able to offer them practical support like food and cleaning products to make their lives easier. If any retailer is able to donate surplus groceries and/or cleaning products, we would be happy to collect and distribute to those families in need. We would acknowledge any contribution and would look to set up a working partnership with donating companies.

An Ofsted registered provision of Pre-School education for children aged 2-5 years of age. We are located within the grounds of Briary Primary School in Greenhill, Herne Bay, Kent. What premises does your project operate from? - we are a charity preschool, based on the grounds of Briary Primary School. Our charity number is 1202612. Our address is Briary Pre-School, Greenhill Road, Herne Bay, Kent CT6 7RS Tel 01227 742050 https://www.briarypreschool.co.uk How do you identify service users and their needs? - We are a preschool offering childcare . We have 60 families on roll and support families who are on low incomes, universal credit, families that have English as an additional language and are recognised as a setting supporting families, in an area of deprivation. We are also partnered with the Food Bank where we can refer families and Canterbury Hygiene Bank where we can refer families into. Are there any other services provided by your organisation other than food support? - we provide support to families on special educational needs, we work with families who need housing support and welfare difficulties. We provide childcare and are funded by Kent County Council through childcare funding. Is there a charge for the service(s) provided by your organisation? - We do not charge for the additional support provided. We are a childcare setting, we are funded by the Local Authority to take children from the age of 2 years - 5 years, some families who are not funded pay fees for their child to attend. However we do not charge for the surplus food it is distributed to our families for free. Do you currently collect surplus food from any other retailers? We were allocated a slot with you for Sainsburys, Whitstable, however, every time my staff go along to collect our weekly slot, the produce has been given to Maya's Community Centre and there is nothing left for us, this happens every week. Has there been local press or similar that demonstrates your organisation's work in the local community? Sometimes we have press involvement for events, but not recently. We attend a Care Home every fortnight, called Herne Place. This is part of our intergenerational play with the local community. Please visit our Facebook page for the latest visit. We have image consents for our children in the setting, but we share a lot on social media, here is our public Facebook page which you can look at. We visit the Herne Place Care Home who I am sure would be happy to provide a reference.
