Surplus To Purpose (SToP) is an environmental enterprise which specialise in the interception of surplus food destined for waste. This produce may be past Best Before, suffered accidental damage or surplus to requirements. Trained personnel record, process and quality control all intercepted food, to ensure it is safe for consumption. This food is then redistributed through various activities such as; boxes for families, outside catering & events, Pay As You Feel cafes and into schools. SToP intercepts approximately 1,000 tons per year at its headquarters in Leeds - the equivalent of 2.3 million meals per year. A majority of the produce we intercept is perishable items such as fruit & vegetables, and bakery goods. However, we also intercept frozen meat & fish, chilled dairy items and non perishable items such as dry goods, drinks and confectionary. In 2022 SToP aims to become the U.K.s largest caterer of events using intercepted produce. From weddings, to conferences, birthdays and work lunches, we wish to provide environmental alternatives to mainstream providers of contract catering. Our mission is to Feed Bellies Not Bins, whilst educating people on the inhumane amounts of edible food wasted every year in the U.K. All of our spaces are inclusive, and all the food we intercept is available to all. We are a local community group with the primary aim of reaching out to help people who are most in need. We receive food surplus from supermarkets within the area and provide for people and families who are going through financial difficulties and struggles within our community. Our work is making a real impact in people's lives and offers valuable support where it is needed most by ensuring people have food at their table. I believe that through the simple act of giving we can overcome many problems we can face in life whilst helping others in our neighbourhood through difficult times. Charity is held to be the ultimate perfection of the human spirit, because it is said to both glorify and reflect the nature of God. ... Charity has two parts: love of God and love of man, which includes both love of one's neighbour and one's self. In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul places the greater emphasis on charity (Love).As a community group this is what we endeavour to achieve. Objectives The object of Springwater community group is to carry on activities which benefit the community in particular - Provide Essential Food Supplies: Ensure that struggling families in derby ,burton ,Leicester,Nottingham and surrounding areas receive necessary food supplies, so no one goes hungry due to financial difficulties. - - Reduce Food Waste: Partner with local supermarkets ,Farash and food businesses to collect and distribute food items that are close to their sell-by date but are still safe for consumption, thereby reducing food waste and promoting sustainability. - Foster Community Support: Create a network of volunteers and community members to assist in the collection, sorting, and distribution of food, fostering a spirit of community support and cooperation. - Educate on Food Security: Educate the community on issues related to food security, nutrition, and sustainable practices to empower individuals and families to make informed decisions about their food consumption. - Collaborate for Advocacy: Work collaboratively with local authorities, charitable organisations, and other stakeholders to address the root causes of food insecurity and advocate for policies that support vulnerable populations.

CATCH (Community Action To Create Hope) is a volunteer-led charity in Harehills, Leeds, founded to improve the community and provide children and young people with better life chances. CATCH began by transforming a disused wasteland into a vibrant community green space where children and young people could meet, play, socialise, learn, and grow. Over the past eight years, it has evolved into a thriving community hub, housed in a two-storey modular building. This transformation was made possible by the efforts of young people and volunteers, who refurbished the building and landscaped the grounds, fostering a strong sense of pride and ownership. Facilities CATCH provides essential facilities for the local community, including: A Community Café: Serving affordable meals made from donated food and hosting a food bank to tackle food insecurity and isolation. An Educational Farm: Home to goats, alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs, and chickens, offering hands-on learning about animal care, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. A Volunteer Gym: Supporting the physical and mental well-being of young people. Meeting and Games Rooms: Multi-purpose spaces for youth activities, workshops, and events. Youth Activities CATCH runs daily activities that engage young people in diverse programs such as dance, music, arts and crafts, sports, boxing, martial arts, and youth club sessions with pool, gaming, and table tennis. With over 1,000 active youth members aged 8–17, sessions attract 70–100 participants on average. What sets CATCH apart is its peer-led model. From age 13, young people can volunteer to lead activities, manage facilities, and participate in community projects. Supported by the digital Volunteer Development Programme, “Super Stars,” this model promotes leadership, accountability, and ownership. Addressing Community Needs CATCH tackles key issues in Harehills, such as food insecurity and social isolation, through its Community Café and food bank. During school holidays, it addresses holiday hunger by providing meals and food support to the 70% of its members who face food poverty. The Educational Farm offers unique learning and therapeutic experiences, connecting families with animals and promoting well-being. Activities include farm tours, animal care, and sustainability education, helping young people develop responsibility and compassion. A Community-Driven Mission CATCH is powered by volunteers and sustained through donations, grants, and income from its café, training courses, and room hire. Every contribution is reinvested into its programs, ensuring its vital work continues. At its heart, CATCH is about empowering young people to lead and create opportunities for their community. Its success is a testament to the passion, collaboration, and resilience of the Harehills community. Together, they are building a brighter future for all.
