How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Sainsbury's has donated surplus food, money and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

Hive Huddersfield CIC

Huddersfield, UK

Hive Huddersfield CIC is a community-rooted social enterprise based opposite Huddersfield Train Station. From the welcoming Hive Cooperative Café and across local neighbourhoods, we support people of all ages across Kirklees through inclusive, creative, and connection-focused projects. Our three core projects are: Hive Youth A safe, inclusive space for LGBTQ+ young people aged 13–17 to connect, share experiences, and access support. Based in Hive Cooperative Café, Hive Youth offers creative workshops, advice, and a welcoming community where friendships grow and everyone can be themselves. Wednesday Wellbeing A relaxed weekly session for adults seeking connection, support, or simply a friendly space. Whether facing loneliness, unemployment, or low mood, adults from across the region are welcome to join this peer-led group in the café for conversation, creativity, and community. Bee Connected Weekly groups for older adults in Dalton and Ashbrow, two of Huddersfield’s most underserved areas. These popular sessions offer activities, peer support, and links to wider networks—helping older residents stay active, connected, and valued. We also partner with other local organisations to run additional projects, including extended support for LGBTQ+ people aged 13–24 through partnership work with Hive Cooperative Cafe. Hive opened its doors in 2021, running the cafe and projects. In August 2025, the cafe was transferred to become a worker's cooperative and we continue to support the space and use this as our base for the majority of projects we deliver. The cafe and venues we use in community are fully accessible, with wheelchair access. We proudly use surplus food to cook nutritious meals with our youth and adult beneficiaries.
