Food AWARE CIC was established in 2008 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. AWARE stands for 'Alternative to Waste And Re-use Enterprise). We currently work with over 50 community-based organisations across South Yorkshire (largely located in Doncaster and Rotherham areas). We collect/receive edible surplus food made available to us via local supermarkets, farms, wholesalers, food discounters, allotments, donations etc and redistribute to those in need via trusted local community partners e.g. churches, foodbanks, soup kitchens, luncheon clubs, youth cafes etc. We also educate on food labelling e.g. 'Best Before' vs 'Use By' dates, Eat Well Plate, Love Food Hate Waste, Change4Life etc. We provide numerous training and volunteering opportunities e.g. drivers, warehouse operatives, administration, foodbank volunteers etc. Our motto is #FeedPeopleNotLandfill!

As a community church it is our duty to support both physical and spiritual needs of the people in our parish. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for all residents within Doncaster with our recent focus on supporting people throughout the pandemic with emergency provisions including food parcels, sanitary items and cleaning products. In addition to our emergency supplies we also offer free slow cookers, steamers and household essentials to stretch the family budget and also support key workers who are working long shifts to keep our country going. We work in partnership with local services and other community groups and distribute activity packs for both children and adults to support positive mental health and wellbeing. This is in addition to distributing free hearing aid batteries as many collection points have closed. We also give away free slip resistant slippers for the elderly to prevent falls in the home. All of this is tied together with our befriending service and wellbeing checks. Open and inclusive to all, whether you just need a friendly chat or a more structured support service, we are here to help. Our organisation has a small team of 2 staff supported by an army of volunteers who are working around the clock to support people in need during the difficult times. Any support no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated and make a huge difference to our community.
