Covid-19 Kindness is the new campaign from Preston’s Promise aimed at helping those most affected by coronavirus. Preston’s Promise has pledged to help those Prestonians most in need by donating essential items to them- whether groceries, toiletries, medication or any other necessities. We are here to help all those who require it. Our target is to use our network of contacts, donors and well-wishers to buy the most necessary essentials at the cheapest possible prices or use donations from generous businesses. We are concerned about our elderly neighbours, friends, parents etc, and I am writing to ask if we could ask you and your store to donate essential supplies for our vulnerable community. We have already started distributing essentials parcels with the assistance of our volunteers, as well as helping the elderly and the self isolated with shopping and meeting any basic needs. Our biggest asset is our wonderful team of followers. You’ve supported us through many campaigns, and have always proved you have the biggest hearts. We couldn’t continue what we do without your strength and support. Covid-19 is our biggest challenge yet. We aren’t daunted (maybe just a teeny bit nervous at the prospect of what we plan to do), but with you on our side our goal is to kill Covid-19 with kindness. Let's do it! Preston’s Promise

The British Red Cross is the single biggest provider of support to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Fleeing your home and arriving in a new country is a traumatic experience. Our Refugee Service supports vulnerable refugee and asylum-seeking individuals and families as they settle into their new lives here in Lancashire. However, once they are here, many families who fled one extraordinary situation find themselves facing another: destitution. Our Preston Refugee Hub is open to refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in the Preston area. We offer a welcome environment where service users can get a free hot meal in a social space. We are able to provide emergency provisions for those that are in destitute situations, as well as access to English language lessons and caseworkers who are able signpost vital information on health services, housing advice, faith organisations and local leisure facilities. Our overall aim is to support individuals and families with adapting to life in a new country. With the current humanitarian crisis across Europe and the Middle East, more families than ever before are approaching the Red Cross for help. This year alone, the number of people in need of our help has increased by a staggering 50%, which is only set to increase as more families arrive in Lancashire from Syria and other countries torn apart by conflict.
