All food we collect will be used to help feed the 30+ men and women who live within our community. Betel of Britain is a group of caring, not-for-profit Christian communities helping people to regain control of their health, work potential and independence.

The Pickle Palace CIC rescues food and feeds people. Prior to Covid we ran 6 weekly PAYF markets, a weekly lunch club and a weekly pop up cafe and worked in 2 local schools educating the kids about food waste in the home and also how to cook and enjoy simple, tasty food. We ran classroom sessions as well as after school clubs and this has now started again as well as adult and other community group session in the outer west of Gateshead but also throughout the ward. During lockdown 1, we completely changed how we work and we re-directed the food we got, from markets into parcels, for those in need both economically and medically. Throughout lockdowns 1 and 2 we delivered just over 3000 parcels over 5 different postcode areas in the North East. We have returned to our community markets as well as delivering our Happy Bag Subscription customers who cannot or are unable to access our markets. We have seen the need increase and our market numbers have expanded; we need further donations so we can reach more people. The surplus food we collect from stores goes back out to the community in various ways. We offer two markets weekly. Any person can come to the Market and fill a bag for life for £3. This includes ambient, fruit, vegetables, bread and chilled/frozen items depending on stock collected. As well as this we do 'Happy Bags' which are delivered on the Friday which is a full bag of food delivered to those who aren't able to get to our markets. Our lunch clubs are now monthly as our scope expands.
