Sainsbury's Glasgow Byres Road Local

We are an independent food bank providing a range of grocery and store cupboard items to the most vulnerable in society. No referrals are necessary and we are staffed entirely by volunteers. The food bank operates from the rectory of St Gregory's so there are no overhead costs. All donations of food and money are used directly to help those in need including young families, those suffering with addiction issues, refugees and asylum seekers.

We are a community-led Healthy Living Centre and small charity based in the Partick / Thornwood area of Glasgow, our objectives are: 1. To support residents experiencing poverty 2. To support residents to improve their health and wellbeing 3. To build capacity in the local community by supporting and training volunteers 4. To support and facilitate new community development inititaives and groups We work in partenrship with other local organisations and groups to make a positive difference in our community! We have been operating a healthy eating community cafe for 24 years - serving vulnerale and elderly residents healthy meals at affordable prices. We employ a cook who is supported by volunteers and receive weekly surplus food donations from FareShare. Our centre has a weekly programme of healthy living activities including exercise classes, meditation, healthy cooking on a budget workshops, walking groups, community choir, art and craft classes and music sessions. We work with local health care professionals offering a social prescribing service - enabling patients experiencing social isolation and loneliness to access our activities and be supported to connect with their local community. We support and facilitate local community development initiative - supporting residents to make a positive difference in their community - current inititaives include: :: a cost of living support group :: a free social cafe, :: friendship groups ::local seasonal events such as gala days, Branching Out workshops and family fun days. We also train and suppport volunteers - current groups supported by our charity included: :: Partick JohnMuir Group - a conservation and walking group :: Partick Pluckers, a ukulele group consisting of older adults who entertain at local care homes :: Partick Cirle Dancing group, made up of older adults whith mobility issiues - supported to remain mobile and enjoy social dancing We serve as the community anchor organisation for Partick and work in partnership with other local organisations. We also take part in health related research initiatives led by local universities.

Discovering your child has a serious illness is a devastating blow to a family. Yet many children face treatments (often unexpected) miles from home, facing weeks or months in hospital, sometimes arriving with just the clothes on their back. This puts already distressed families under incredible financial pressure as they have to pay for hotels, travel great distances and can find themselves reliant on fast food options. By providing families with accommodation and family spaces for the duration of the hospital stay, Ronald McDonald House Glasgow help keep the family together, without the worry of financial burdens. Our service is free and parents can stay for as long as they need, however it costs the charity approximately £660,000 to keep our doors open 365 days a year. Our House has 31 private en-suite family rooms, a large shared kitchen which has a secure soft play area for small children – allowing parents to safely cook family meals while siblings play, a number of lounge areas, laundry facilities, a library and parking. Ronald McDonald House Glasgow is an independent Scottish charity established in 1996. Welcoming families from across Scotland and beyond, we are endorsed but not funded by Ronald McDonald House Charities. We are based a few minutes from the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow - Scotland’s largest children’s hospital - and provide a safe, warm, welcoming ‘home from home’ for families whose child is being treated there. With so many unknowns and an uncertain outcome one thing we did know was that we had a home at the Ronald McDonald House for as long as our Sophie was in hospital.
