The company has been formed to benefit principally the community of Newtongrange which comprises the Newtongrange community council area (“the community”) with the following objects: (1) the advancement of community development (including the advancement of urban regeneration) principally within the community; but only to the extent that the above purposes are consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development. The food we receive from any partners through Neighbourly, would be used to enhance our Pantry offering. This runs every Sunday from 11-1. Each person who attends pays £3.50 to access ambient foods. This is funded as an initial amount and then restocked each week with the income we receive. This is the provision of 10 ambient items. From pasta, cereals, tea/coffee and a variety of tinned food and cleaning/hygiene products. In addition to this there is also access to free fruit and vegetables that we purchase each week. Free cat and dog food which is donated from Edinburgh cat and dog home. Free sanitary products and free bakery items donated from Costco, Straiton and Tesco. We also occasionally have clothes/books/toys which have been donated that people can help themselves too. We have 65 - 75 people on average attending each week and it would be good to be able to offer more bakery & fresh produce which would be free. We make it very clear that the donated food is free of charge. Any left over food is taken to a local sheltered housing or is used for the groups we support during the week.

We area Community Pantry following the Pantry model. We serve the residents of Central Dalkeith and Woodburn. Membership is free. Members then pay £3.50 a week to shop in the Pantry, we supply only ambient food items and purchase these from local supermarkets, this includes household cleaning items, toiletries such as toothpaste, soap, deodorants, mens shaving items etc . On top of this we supply free fruit, vegetables purchased weekly, and bread/bakery items. Free period products/ incontinence items, free pet food and free of charge any donations from received to our membership. We started the Pantry in October 2022 and now have in excess of 350 members. The organisation is run by volunteers. We are open every Friday from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. The reduction of food waste is one of our goals and to that end perishable items left at the end is distributed locally, as part of the local pantry network we pass on fresh fruit and vegetables to the nearby Newtongrange Pantry who operated on a Sunday and items that have to be used sooner are given to local groups and organisations. We are hoping to start our own food growing operation in the future. We try to help with the cost of living crisis in a positive way by offering a food with dignity approach, we are a community Pantry not a Poverty Pantry We operate the pantry within the Woodburn Community Hub in Woodburn, Dalkeith, the building is owned by Midlothian Council, it is used by other community groups and the Pantry has full use of the building on Fridays.. We supply ambient food from the Pantry, we also offer chilled and frozen items. Our members have 10 points to spend in the Pantry, each product is marked as either 1 point or 2 points in value. An average shop equates to around £15/£20. We are working closely with our local CAB and have regular visits from the likes of Changeworks to help people with their We are constantly talking with our members to find out what their needs are and see how best to help them through this cost of living crisis.

Musselburgh Community Pantry is based at the MECLC, Musselburgh (Monday 12.00 to 1.00 and 6.00 to 7.00 & Tuesday 6.00 to 7.00). and at 8 Newbigging Musselburgh (Thursday 2.00 to 4.00 and 6.00 to 7.00 & Friday 10.30 to 11.30). We support people who live in the Musselburgh area and who are struggling financially as a result of increasing living costs. We offer 10 credits to customers in exchange for a small donation of money. We have been established since March 2023 and in that time the number of customers using our services has increased, we are well known to partner agencies and new customers are often introduced by existing customers.
