The Community Pantry is a part of the Mayfield and Easthouses Development Trust (MAEDT) SC038325. MAEDT is a community charity that works across Mayfield and Easthouses to provide a variety of support and activities for its residents. We are a not-for-profit organisation that is proactive and reactive to the needs of the communities that we serve. We aim to achieve the sustainable regeneration of our community through addressing the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural needs of the Mayfield and Easthouses Community. The Pavilion Garden and Café was established by the Trust in January 2021. It features raised beds for growing produce, an orchard, as well as an area for children to play, enjoy and learn about gardening and getting involved with outdoor activities. Situated in Mayfield Park the community café is an ideal place for the people to grab tea or coffee and or lunch. The aim of the Pavilion Café and Garden is to be a place where community members of all ages can go and be a place of tranquility and peace. The MAEDT Community Food Pantry a further division of MAEDT is a weekly support network for local residents. Through a membership programme we aim to provide a longer-term alternative to food banks, which are only able to provide short term, occasional emergency support to families experiencing food poverty. The Pantry is a community food store that aims to help residents “get more for less.”. We look to help and encourage families that need a little bit of support to manage their budgets through these tough times. Residents register to become members and will pay £3.50 per shop per week and can receive goods up to the value of £15. The Pantry will provide Free Fruit and Vegetables, selected bakery items and free sanitary products. The Pantry model is aimed at returning control and dignity to the residents and removing the stigma around food poverty and receiving emergency help. No product in the pantry has an individual price and members can choose the products that they want and need rather than been given parcels over which they do not have any contol. The Community Pantry would be a springboard to allow us to identify the needs of community residents. Giving us the opportunity to offering possible solutions to the challenges that they face. MAEDT also provides a free Recycling Uniform Bank initiative where local residents can swap, share cleaned school uniforms.

Musselburgh Community Pantry is based at the MECLC, Musselburgh (Monday 12.00 to 1.00 and 6.00 to 7.00 & Tuesday 6.00 to 7.00). and at 8 Newbigging Musselburgh (Thursday 2.00 to 4.00 and 6.00 to 7.00 & Friday 10.30 to 11.30). We support people who live in the Musselburgh area and who are struggling financially as a result of increasing living costs. We offer 10 credits to customers in exchange for a small donation of money. We have been established since March 2023 and in that time the number of customers using our services has increased, we are well known to partner agencies and new customers are often introduced by existing customers. We work in partnership with other pantries, food charities, and local foodbanks to share food to reduce food waste,

The Midlothian Pantry Network was launched in January 2025 as a network scheme for local Food pantries,to provide vital service for communities across Midlothian. With the increasing pressure of the cost of living crisis,the network ensures that food resources,and knowledge are shared equitably among all local pantries while actively reducing waste. At the heart of the network is a central space hosted by Mayfield and easthouses Development Trust. The space serves as a syorage and distribution centre ,recieving food donations and coordinating deliveries to food pantrys throughout midlothian. Partisipating in the network is free for all pantries making it accesable and collabrative initative.By centralising storage and distrabution the network is helping to reduce food waste,multible journeys for food pick upsand helping pantries to access additional food sources.Foods can be stored at the network for a limited time until it is required helping pantries manage there stock effectively and avoid unnecessary waste. The Midlothian Pantry Network is more than just a food distributation system its a network of support Midlothian is taking proactive steps to address food poverty,share resources and create a community driven approach to helping others Together we can make a difference.Pantries run across the Midlothian area 6 days out of the 7 .
