Heart of the community
Swadlincote, UK
Hello, My name is Carole-Anne I’m the founder of a small community group called Heart of the community, I founded this group, firstly because I myself as a child often went without food. Secondly the thought of anyone else going hungry made me more determined to do something about it, For over 20 yrs my husband and I have given Xmas day hampers to local family’s that needed help to put food on the table, Over the years the need has become greater and greater So in 2022 with a great team I formed Heart of the community❤️ A non profit community group We have now partnered with Rebecca Barnett landlady of The Lamb Inn in Newhall where we are based. Each Wednesday we hand out food hampers for anyone struggling to buy food, we don’t discriminate at all, wether working or not, family or single or homeless, All hampers are free. Also available each Wednesday is free lunch, tea or coffee & a warm fire, Along with hampers we also give warm blankets to members of the community, we also have 3 clothe banks with star charity which means we can help with clothing families, We are also lucky enough to have partnered with Period power who provide us with free sanitary wear for the hampers should they be needed,( pictured ) And what a surprise when Swadlincote local police also popped in to support us, they mentioned what a great service we are providing for the local community, and mentioned us on there social media group ( pictured ) At the moment we don’t have any outside funding or any help with surplus foods from retailers we are constantly raising funds via weekly jumble sales at The Lamb Inn or we have a social media page to hold auctions and raffles. All our hampers are free we do not have any charge at all. No criteria at all, if help is genuinely needed we will help, hampers are available via a self referral form available by emailing us , we also have referrals coming in from NHS, P3, schools & GP’s, everyone is dealt with in the strict confidence,
