Sainsbury's Streatham Hill Local

Each week we collect excess fresh food from local supermarkets, including Waitrose, Tesco, Aldi and M&S Food. This is usually food that is approaching its shelf-life and cannot be sold. Every Saturday afternoon we distribute this healthy food to local families and individuals in Croydon from our distribution point in Thornton Heath. We take referrals from Social Services, schools, family centres and medical centres. We also accept self-referrals from clients who can demonstrate they are on benefits, low income or otherwise in need. Our aim is to enable disadvantaged people and families to maintain a healthy diet while on a low income or no income at all. We also increase awareness of the problem of plastic pollution by encouraging clients to bring their own bags, by giving out re-cyclable bags ourselves and by distributing as much food as possible without plastic packaging.

Lavender Hope CIC is a community interest company dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals residing in our local community. Our organisation firmly believes in promoting inclusivity, support, and empowerment for all, with a particular focus on mental health, asylum seekers, children, and older adults. One of our primary initiatives revolves around mental health support we strive to create a safe and nurturing environment for those struggling with mental health challenges. Additionally, we are committed to supporting asylum seekers who have often faced traumatic experiences and find themselves in unfamiliar surroundings. Lavender Hope CIC works closely with local organisations and authorities to provide essential resources such as cooking, assistance with school admissions, baby equipment and signposting to language classes, and employment support. We believe in helping asylum seekers integrate into the community, fostering a sense of belonging and ensuring their basic needs are met. Our organisation also recognises the importance of investing in the well-being and future of children. We offer after-school activities, and mentoring services to empower children to reach their full potential. Furthermore, we facilitate community engagement initiatives that aim to strengthen the bond between children and their families, fostering a sense of belonging and support. Lavender Hope CIC is equally committed to addressing the needs of older adults in our community. We provide various services such as art classes, food assistance. Our goal is to ensure that older adults feel valued, supported, and less isolated, enabling them to maintain their independence and quality of life.
