The Dalgarno food bank is a weekly food distribution service providing both perishable and non-perishable foods for the local community. The service is free, but clients are asked to make a small donation for what they receive. Every small amount contributes to the successful running of the service. The food bank is for anyone who may be unemployed, receiving low income, or are struggling to cope with household bills. However, people need not restrict themselves to these reasons to use the food bank. If you would like to give food or any other donations to our food bank - donations are always well received and appreciated. Key details about the service are as follow: Tickets are given out in the reception area of the centre from 10am. The food bank distribution starts at 2pm. To keep the service Covid secure, food bank users do not enter the building, but volunteers bag up the food they have requested. Most people leave the food bank with two full plastic bags. My Yard reduces food waste by rescuing surplus food from various sources and donations from customers of partner retailers. These supplies are then shared with the most in need locally via community surplus food markets, at events on social housing estates and sheltered housing schemes. We also support organisations dealing with the most vulnerable and provide food where we can. Groups of young people have established and planted vegetables and learnt how to cook healthy meals through cooking lessons. Based on Grange Farm Estate, My Yard work with the local community providing workshops such as music, dance and yoga, assist residents with monthly events such as a jam night of performances and a meal. Working with families and young people aged 16 - 25 who are vulnerable in Harrow, My Yard also runs a gardening group for young people aged 16 - 18 and various holiday activities partnering with other local organisations and councils.

At Almanar we have a busy and vibrant kitchen. We cook for the community on a very regular basis we have group of women ( hubb community ladies) they provide meals for the community and beyond. At almanar we are committed to tackle food wastage and hunger where and whenever we can, we open our door to all regardless or race or religion. We have collaborated with the Red Cross on their refugee day and provided a selection of dishes for their beneficiaries. On the Monday and Thursday evenings we offered dinners to the local community that was fasting or needed a meal, just to mention a few as we have many other projects ongoing and incoming. This is why food donations are so important to us it allows us to carry on cooking and helping and makes it in some way sustainable.
