The Store Cupboard CIO
London, UK
The Store Cupboard is a not-for-profit affordable food project with a shop in Hanwell, where people are at the heart of what we do. We’re here to help vulnerable families access good-quality food. Working with agencies and charities across Ealing, we offer referred members a weekly shop for a small membership fee with real choice—fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, eggs, and store-cupboard staples in a welcoming retail environment. Volunteers are on hand to chat and listen. It is a place to connect and to feel part of a caring community. We aim to provide an effective way to help people’s food budgets go further when they find themselves in need, as cost should not be a barrier to nutritious healthy food. The format is very much a normal shopping experience, with an emphasis on fresh fruit & vegetables. Clients choose their own food and pay a membership fee each week of £3.50 for their food. People are referred to us by agencies and charities throughout the borough of Ealing that are working with vulnerable families who have found themselves in financial difficulties.
