Dance Ups – Creative Dance Workshops and Stage Rehearsals for Young People in Hackney Dance Ups is a grassroots weekly dance workshop for young people aged 7–16, based at a community hall in Hackney. We provide a safe, inclusive and affordable space for children and teens to stay active, build confidence, and express themselves through dance. Workshops run every Thursday from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM including during school holidays. Sessions combine stage and floor-based practice, choreography, group routines, and themed activities — all designed to build teamwork, creativity, and joy. Dance Ups celebrates community spirit while offering performance opportunities such as showcases and carnival-style events. Many of our participants come from low-income families, and we’re proud to offer low-cost sessions to ensure accessibility for all. How we would use food surplus donations: We would provide healthy snacks and light refreshments to participants during or after workshops. Many children attend straight from school or aftercare, and food support would help ensure no child goes hungry, reduce stigma, and support wellbeing in a trusted, safe environment. We’re currently seeking support with: Healthy snacks or food vouchers for participants Costumes and basic stage equipment (e.g. lighting, props, mirrors) Volunteer support for workshops and events Small grants to help us reach more children across Hackney To find out more, visit www.danceups.co.uk or email us at info@danceups.co.uk.
