Suffolk Prickles Hedgehog Rescue
Stowmarket, UK
As an endangered species that has declined by up to 75% since 2000 Suffolk Prickles Hedgehog Hospital is passionate about 'Saving Suffolk's Hedgehogs' to protect their role in sustaining the natural health of our county Since 2010, we've supported conservation and preservation efforts by providing a rescue, care, and rehabilitation service for sick, injured, or orphaned hedgehogs using a simple philosophy: Every hedgehog matters Our hogs are treated individually and given appropriate quality care at our “hogspitals”. We differ to other hedgehog rescues because all our care is given 'in house'. We never foster our hedgehogs out to others Veterinary support by Penrose Veterinary practice helps us give every hog the absolute best care possible and, once suitable for release, the hedgehogs return to their 'home range' where possible with a clear & robust release policy backed by sound research Recognised by the CPD certification service, we are accredited to offer courses in hedgehog care enabling our volunteers to progress their knowledge and skills in caring for the hedgehogs. We also provide courses and information to educate the public in the study of hedgehogs and in the care, methods of treatment, conservation, and habitat of hedgehogs As hedgehog lovers, it is no longer simply enough just to care for the sick animals that are brought to us. It is important to us to support all hedgehogs and their habitats in Suffolk with our services, dedicated volunteers, and supporters Volunteering opportunities At our hogspitals – hedgehog care and hogspital cleaning and organisation. Regular volunteers can access hog nurse training and environmental training free of charge With our fundraising and events team – supporting external events, donation collection, and public awareness Newspaper collection – we get through a lot of newspaper and need help in providing collection points, sorting newspapers and delivering them to the rescue Gardeners – to help develop and maintain our outside garden used by our hedgehogs Ambulance drivers – to transport of hedgehogs from our veterinary practices back to the hogspital Administration Administrative support to the charity Crafting Making quality items for us to sell to raise funds Funding and sponsorship Our hedgehog hospital running costs are not just high but unpredictable. We are always grateful for funding for the day to day care of our hedgehogs, the development of our hospital and its medical provision Adoption We will send you information about the hedgehog and some updates about the rescue. This supports the work we do. Access our website for further information Education Veterinarians can book one of our of our CPD courses in dealing with hedgehog emergencies.
