The Dalgarno food bank is a weekly food distribution service providing both perishable and non-perishable foods for the local community. The service is free, but clients are asked to make a small donation for what they receive. Every small amount contributes to the successful running of the service. The food bank is for anyone who may be unemployed, receiving low income, or are struggling to cope with household bills. However, people need not restrict themselves to these reasons to use the food bank. If you would like to give food or any other donations to our food bank - donations are always well received and appreciated. Key details about the service are as follow: Tickets are given out in the reception area of the centre from 10am. The food bank distribution starts at 2pm. To keep the service Covid secure, food bank users do not enter the building, but volunteers bag up the food they have requested. Most people leave the food bank with two full plastic bags. A garden farm of colour & flavour to slow down and express oneself… Bringing everyone together from the young to the old, taking small bites at a time to make a difference.

As an independent local charity, Age UK Kensington & Chelsea is embedded in the community and makes a tangible difference to the lives of thousands of older people each year through the wide range of services we provide. These include information and advice, services which combat loneliness and isolation such as befriending and escorting, ‘practical’ services such as DIY and gardening, and health-related projects which include specialist dementia support. As an organisation our service users are at the heart of everything we do, and we ensure that they are listened to and given a voice. This is done through involving them in the design and evaluation of our services, as well using their feedback to respond on a range of issues. Our own long experience of working in the borough, coupled with census and JNSA data, mean we have a detailed understanding of our population of older people. One of the biggest issues faced by older people in Kensington and Chelsea today is loneliness. Loneliness is a very complex issue which is often experienced as a result of other many challenges faced. One of the greatest strengths in our community is the robust support network for an older person which is the result of relationships which have been built across statutory and voluntary organisations in the borough over many years. By providing a wide range of free activities and outings, we are able to ensure that having little money does not restrict older people’s access to social opportunities. Increasingly the NHS and government both local and national are recognising the detrimental impact of isolation and loneliness on peoples health and well-being as well as the value of the voluntary sector.
