Sainsbury's Frome

In partnership with Frome Town Council, Edventure: Frome – a school for community enterprise – challenged its students to help tackle the problem of Food Waste in Frome. A team of 10 students organised pop-up events feeding over 200 people from gleaned and surplus food, ran a workshop at Frome Community college and began looking into the logistics of setting up a Community Fridge – inspired by other similar projects from around the world. Edventure: Frome and Frome Town Council have then supported Project Coordinator Esther Deeks to take this project to fruition. This community fridge is the first of its kind in the UK and a pilot project.

We are a large volunteer based Charity operating across the Wiltshire area. Our volunteers use donated food to share with local families, individuals and organisations who are most in need. We are currently under pressure to meet the increasing need to help people who cannot afford food, whilst also experiencing a big decrease in the amount of food we receive due to less available food and many more people buying food from the reduced price sections. We provide compassionate care and support for people in our community with a life-limiting illness. Our focus is on quality of life, helping patients to live well and die well. We give care and support to patients and their families across a 800sq mile area, which includes Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES), and parts of Wiltshire and Somerset. Our services are free of charge and provided whenever and wherever they are needed; at home, in the Hospice, or in our community. We respect the uniqueness of each patient and their family, and empower them to choose the type of care they receive. We rely on the generous support of our local community to ensure we can continue our work of providing compassionate, dignified care at a time when it matters most. For every £1 we receive from the NHS we have to raise £4. There are so many ways you can support the Hospice: you can make a regular gift to our work, sign up for one of our events, take on a sponsored challenge, leave us a gift in your Will, set up a memorial fund for a loved one and many more opportunities. We rely on amazing volunteers, generous donors (who give us their good quality, pre-loved goods, clothes and furniture) and our customers – all of which make a huge difference.
