How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Sainsbury's has donated surplus food and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

Alton Community Cupboard

Alton, UK

Alton Community Cupboard is a community project set up to reduce waste. Local volunteers collect surplus food (and other surplus goods) from supermarkets, allotments and peoples' fridges and make it available to anyone and everyone from the local area. Alton Community Cupboard does not charge for the food and surplus goods that we distribute but small voluntary donations of £2 are accepted for higher value items to contribute to running costs. Alton Community Cupboard makes the food and surplus goods available to anyone in the community that can benefit from these. The shop opens 6 days per week and there are a core of customers who attend every week or more frequently as well as others who attend from time to time. In 2024 approximately 100,000kg of surplus food was distributed. Please email altoncommunitycupboard@gmail.com rather than messaging here, thank you
