Sainsbury's Ringwood

We are a not for profit social supermarket based in West Moors who provide support to over 1600 households in our community. We tackle food insecurity, social isolation and the environmental impact of food waste in our area. We source our products from surplus redistribution companies and charities, we save end of day goods from supermarkets and local businesses; We have an allotment to grow our own produce, promote home growing and accept donated surplus fruit and veg grown locally too. We also purchase products like freezer goods to ensure our service users have a wide selection of food and goods available to them at every visit. We operate on a membership basis to be able to monitor user trends and create a unified community feel for our service users. Our Larder is set up like any other 'shop' ensuring all service users have dignified access to a wide selection of food and household products. We do not pre allocate goods, our members choose what they like and will use which helps minimise further waste. Members visit once per week, there is a £7 visit fee to be paid when accessing Castleman Community Larder. We use this £7 to contribute towards the running costs like rent (£800pcm). We also use this to purchase any food that we cannot source from end of day, local business or in our regular collections. Our members take home UNLIMITED fruit, veg and bread. We promote healthy eating and encourage our members to use vegetables in meals as often as possible. 3 RED ITEMS - Items from the Fridge/Freezer like family size packs of minced beef, fresh meat and cheese, butter etc And 12 YELLOW items which consist of staple foods, tins, jars, cereal, pasta and household / toiletries like toilet roll, cleaning products, nappies etc Our priorities are focused on saving waste in our community and giving all of our service users a friendly, dognified and welcoming environment when they choose to visit us.

Ringwood Race Against Time (RACE) formed in 2019, with the aim of bringing people from the Ringwood area together to take actions that help the environment, biodiversity and climate change. We provide opportunities for people to take actions locally to reduce waste, learn new skills and combat climate change. So far we have Encouraged the planting of over 50,000 trees since 2020 (Trees for the Future) Saved over 100 tonnes of food from waste since May 2021 (Ringwood Community Fridge) Saved over 50 duvet covers, 45 sheets and 30 pairs of curtains from waste through our sewing workshops (Make, Do and Mend) Planted 1000s of bulbs and 100s of pollinator friendly plants through (RACE to Green) Started a series of meals together to provide inspiration about vegetables (Pick to Plates) Had a series of opportunities for people to connect with the environment through art Run 4 Ringwood ECO Fairs Run 6 clothes swaps Run 3 spring seed and seedling swaps

The relief of food hardship and poverty for individuals and families living in and around ringwood through the collection of ambient food products donated by individuals, schools, churches and other groups. the food is sorted, stored and then distributed to those in need through a voucher system. a voucher is issued by a front-line professional who is able to assess that there is a genuine need.
