'Inspired by Jesus, walking his way of radical love to make a difference in this world' This is our mission statement, lived out through weekly worship, community cafes, partnership with local authorities and charities for delivery of services, youth work, pastoral support, appeals for other charities, courses on the Christian faith, weddings and funerals, exhibitions and more. Through neighbourly, our Community Food Hub is able to collect and distribute food to local families and individuals in need of a little help, because of poverty, ill health or other reasons. We work with other organisations, including Citizens Advice Bureau, Stroud District Council, The Parent and Carer Alliance and Christians against Poverty to help meet the needs of the most vulnerable within our local community.

A community group helping to enhance our local green recreational space - Hopwood Park. Through fundraising events and successful grant applications, we have raised funds to renovate a derelict bus shelter/toilet block which we now operate as a subsidiary business of the Charity - a successful and busy community café "The Tree House Café". Revenue from the business is invested directly into Hopwood Park for the benefit of our community. The Friends of Hopwood Park use food surplus in a community café and to provide food parcels for those in need and for local children's meals. The packed lunches are requested by the Youth Service of the local Council, funded by grant provisions so are free to the recipient. They took part in the Marcus Rashford Holiday Lunch Project in the summer of 2021 providing over 1,000 packed lunches which were funded by grants allocated to Rochdale Youth Service. The café is open to the general public and is attended by a variety of people within the local community. The prices in the café are representative of the assistance which they receive from the local community, for example a bowl of home-made hearty soup and bread for £2 or a home-made.corned beef hash for £4. Due to The Friends of Hopwood Park being a non-profit organisation, revenue raised from the Café is reinvested into Hopwood Park for the benefit of the local community. In 2021.a self-funded public access defibrillator was installed at the entrance to the Cafe. An outdoor seating are has also recently been erected to enhance the Cafe and provide more outdoor space to enjoy with friends and family.

Gastrells Community Primary School are a community primary school who provide breakfast and after school care, and also offer nurture group support and cookery activities for children. This allows children to develop a range of key skills and have access to healthy nutritious foods. Nurture sessions include: • Introduction - an opportunity to greet each other and express how they are feeling • ‘sharing and turn taking’ focussed, related to the National Curriculum and the children’s identified targets. (These are set based on assessments at the beginning of the programme) • Opportunity for children to return to the ‘Home Area’, focussed time with an adult • Child will preparing a snack with an adult, and interacting with others to ‘serve’ this, after this being modelled by an adult • Children clearing up after snack. Including washing up, allowing many of the Nurture Targets to be accessed • conclusion with the opportunity for complements and informal peer assessment Outcomes of the project will be improved: • mental health, including resilience and key skills. • academic achievement • school attendance • social interaction with others Most children arrive in reception emotionally ready for school able to share toys and feel empathy for others . However, for a small minority, a lack of emotional development will mean difficulty to access learning and social and emotional progress. When a child has delayed emotional development, problems can arise with accessing learning and maintaining friendships. Something as simple as turn taking in a group situation or waiting for lunch. It is with these issues that membership of a nurture group can help, ensuring a happier and more successful start to their school life.
