Sainsbury's Calne

We are a large volunteer based Charity operating across the Wiltshire area. Our volunteers use donated food to share with local families, individuals and organisations who are most in need. We are currently under pressure to meet the increasing need to help people who cannot afford food, whilst also experiencing a big decrease in the amount of food we receive due to less available food and many more people buying food from the reduced price sections. St Mary Redcliffe is one of the finest medieval church buildings in England, home to a thriving congregation and a beacon for the local community. We welcome around 50,000 visitors each year from around the world and the church is open every day of the year to visitors and worshippers. We are also passionate about making a difference in our local community and run a Community Hub which is used on a daily basis, in a variety of ways by many people. Across church and community, there are lots of ways to volunteer and get involved in the life of St Mary Redcliffe.

HVDV is an organisation providing support to families, individuals both male and female, and children/young people who have experienced difficulty, where that difficulty is related to domestic violence and their associated issues. Our organisation aims to reduce suffering and promote and preserve health and wellbeing, by helping individuals to sustain independence. Hvdv help survivors of domestic abuse with clothes after first fleeing then with spoons to bedroom furniture if resettling in Wiltshire The charity also does a Christmas gift appeal and a Easter egg appeal To give to individuals and families who have fled dv. Since Covid 2019 Since the start of covid the role of the charity extended not just to Dv families but to the whole community. First we started going door to door with food donations from neighbourly making sure the elderly and vulnerable had fresh fruit and bread as well as food in the cupboard. A service offered totally without charge. My 11 year old child gave up his time coming out in full PPE to give his kind support. We then open our food bank to help families that were struggling in community, some had been furlowed and others laid off not knowing how they were going to feed their family. We were there to help with everything from toothpaste to food to feed their household in need of food . We continued to stay open all through Covid supporting over 100 families a week. Run totally from donations from Neighbourly, kind public ,other companies food that were donated and money raised via Go Fund Me and the New Charity Shop. Offering a free service to help families not only to eat but with mental health and a friendly face to talk to. We set up a free community table outside of the charity shop on a Mon, Wed and Friday for people to help themselves Cereal and tins as well as surplus donated by Aldi, Fruit, veg bread and cakes as well as other surplus from M & S. All of this provided free. We shared with a community Hub for the youth club and their community fridge. We also shared with 3 schools to ensure they had plenty of Cereal to give to children in the mornings supporting the local community. The Hvdv New Beginnings shop Was also refuge for victims of domestic abuse as even a food parcel was the only way they could get out to get support in lockdown. The charity also supporting children with free educational items which was funded by community foundation .
