How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Sainsbury's has donated surplus food, money and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

The Snack Shack

York, UK

Clifton Green is a thriving primary school in York. Here, children experience opportunities that enrich their lives. Our school has family and community at its heart. The children learn to design and make the food and run the stall in the playground after school. Students are inspired to get involved in the exciting world of cooking which teaches them life skills. Customers - both adults and children - are able to come and pick up a healthy food to enjoy on their way home from school. We ask for a Pay As You Feel donation to keep the snack shack going and to encourage enterprise skills in the children. The funds raised will go towards developing a kitchen where cooking sessions can take place throughout the day with adults and children. Customers are encouraged to think of other ways of donating to the school; for example, some parents may choose to donate an hour of time helping children with their reading, feeding the chickens or running events at school. Thank you for helping us continue sharing food with our children. Please help us to reach our goal of funding a kitchen.

Haxby Foodshare

York, UK

Hello We are looking for food and non-food donations please, to fight hunger and poverty and reduce food waste. Since the beginning of the pandemic City of York Council and a team of volunteers have provided support to residents who are self-isolating or shielding with tasks such as shopping, prescription pick-ups, financial support and welfare calls. Our role has now changed and we now provide a Foodshare to our local residences, trying to prevent anyone from food poverty, as well as reducing the amount of food going to landfill. The Haxby Foodshare is based at Haxby and Wigginton Scouts HQ, Haxby, York and we would now like to also offer a food share project to support residents who live in the north of the city and I’m contacting local businesses to see if they could help support this project and maybe provide us with some surplus food donations. We run this free service on a Wednesdays and Fridays (excluding Bank Holidays) from 10.30am until 12.30pm. Any donations would be gratefully received, they can be dropped at the Scout's HQ or Co-op, Haxby Library and Wigginton Recreation Hall. Thank you :)
