Sainsbury's Leeds Headingley

We are a local group of volunteers providing the people of North Leeds with all sorts of groups, events or basically whatever they need to help them with life. We require volunteers, helpers, any items that can assist us do what we do. As a charity we run numerous groups for the local community including a stay and play session, fitness classes to name a few. We also do community projects and hold events throughout the year. The surplus will be used at the groups and also as part of the food exchange programme where members of the community use the food and create meals and then pass on their excess to other residents.....it is a unique idea but we find it is well recieved.

Bramley Care Bears is a volunteer run community set up in October 2019 in Bramley, West Leeds. We aim to develop a real sense of community spirit, trust and support across our area. Our services are all run by local volunteers living in Bramley and includes: Garden Makeovers, Bramley Food Bank, Homework Club, Woodworking shop, Litter picking events, Sports Activities and Tech buddies. In Bramley the number of children achieving a good standard of early years development is 13% less than the national average, key stage 2 11% less and key stage 4/GCSE 14%. Also in Bramley less than 1 in 3 children achieve a good mark in Marks and English at GCSE compared to nearly 1 in 2 nationally. In Leeds 4% of the population rely on foodbanks to feed their families, this is double the nation average. Around 35 percent of people living in Leeds, Who took part in a recent survey, said they are regularly borrowing money to cover costs of food. We are feeding at least 55 to 60 families every week. On a Friday at Broadlea Community Centre we have our food bank from 11am until 12pm, on a Sunday 11am until 12pm. The Leeds Food Aid Network (FAN) exists to bring together a range of food aid providers, agency workers, the city Council and members of the wider public, to help tackle food poverty effectively in the city of Leeds. This is part of Food Wise Leeds and the West Yorkshire Food Poverty Network, which is connected to the national initiative Feeding Britain. Our aim is to empower, enable and advocate for Leeds food providers to eradicate food poverty and advance social justice.
