How it works

Here's how businesses create local impact through Neighbourly.

Through Neighbourly, Sainsbury's has donated surplus food, money and products, turning business resources into meaningful community impact.

  1. 1

    A business gives

Through Neighbourly, businesses donate resources to local good causes.

  2. 2

A local good cause puts it to use

Support goes directly to charities and community organisations, helping them free up time and resources to focus on what matters most.

  3. 3

People get the support they need

Whether it's a hot meal, essential products, a safe place to meet or someone to talk to, support reaches people in ways that make a real difference.

  4. 4

    Every contribution counts

Together, these contributions create real, measurable impact in local communities. That's social value in action.

As a Local Pantry, we go beyond the food bank model, creating a sustainable and long-term solution to food poverty. Members have reported improved financial positions, improved health and well-being and reduced isolation. The small weekly subscription of £4.50, enables members of this pantry to access up to approximately £25 worth of food from their own choosing, including fresh fruit and vegetables and store cupboard favourites. In return for the fee, Members can choose at least ten items of food each week, along with additional opportunities of volunteering and training. Membership is open to residents in the Carlisle City area.

Norman Street School

Carlisle, UK

We are a primary school in Carlisle and we provide wrap around care for our children. Prior to school closing due to Covid-19, we had just set up our Eco Food Den where we 'sold' food donations to raise money for school. With school now being closed, any food donations are available for our vulnerable families, and our local community. Our families are very grateful for the support being provided by our local supermarkets.
