The purpose of Allen Valleys Community Food & Warmth Network • To build on our community strengths to support each other through the cost of living crisis and beyond • To ensure a network of open access warm places is available throughout the Allen Valleys • A weekly service to provide a hot meal to eat in a community space or take home, for a donation or on a pay as you feel basis • Provide a weekly surplus food service to enable local people and families to have access to surplus food from a variety of sources The hot meals, hot meal take out and surplus food distribution are managed and operated by local volunteers. We partner with local community transport organisation, Adapt Northeast, to enable people who are isolated due to geography or physical illness. We also partner with the local primary school, Allendale Primary School, and a local parish church, St Cuthberts, to host and promote the surplus food service. The hot meal service typically provides meals to an average of 55 people every week. We estimate that upto 45 people each week benefit from the surplus food service. We also ensure that no food goes to waste.
