The Food Basket is a community fridge operating across Peterborough. We offer local fresh food to the community, reducing food waste and tackling food insecurity. The community fridge is open to all. There is no need to be in receipt of benefits and you do not need a referral or voucher to access this free service, just come along to your chosen session and bring a bag. Due to how we receive our food we cannot guarantee what we will have but in general it is a mix of fresh fruit and vegetables from farms and supermarkets and bakery goods such as bread and cakes. This can help with food costs and stop food going to waste, good for your pocket and the environment! Our Extra Helpings programme offers additional support for our patrons by linking with other organisations with specialist knowledge. We are currently working with Healthy You, Cross Keys Homes, and Woodgreen.

We collect surplus food including food which has reached its best before and use by date from suppliers. Using this food, we prepare and serve nourishing meals in our Pay As You Feel Café at Barn Hill Methodist Church every Saturdays 12pm-2pm alongside our Pantry and Community Fridge. Inspired by Adam Smith's 'Real Junk Food Café' in Leeds and frustrated at the amount of good food wasted whilst people go hungry, Second Helpings Stamford opened in October 2015 as a Church and Community Project. We take perfectly edible raw materials from supermarkets, farms and personal supporters in and around Stamford that would otherwise go to waste. This produce is available to the community daily from the Pantry and the Community Fridge, and in delicious, wholesome meals in the Saturday Café where we serve an average of 70 people each week. We are staffed by volunteers and all our food is available on a pay-as-you-feel basis. Stamford Methodist Church is a busy, family oriented church close to the town centre. Committed to inclusivity and social outreach the premises are used by a wide variety of groups from the congregation and the local community.

Whittlesey Emergency Food Aid (WEFA) is an independent non profit making organisation established in November 2014 and is responsible for helping those who are experiencing food poverty in the area. Referrals are made by third parties with whom we work in partnership,including schools, Social Services, Housing Associations, GP surgeries , Health and Family Workers, GP's , the Police and others as well as by word of mouth. The WEFA storage and distribution centre is based at The Whittlesey Christian Church in Broad Street, Whittlesey, where families and individuals come and collect their food parcels on a weekly basis which can also include toiletries and household products depending on availability at the time. WEFA relies entirely on food and cash donations from individuals, community groups, churches, shops and schools, without whom the scheme couldn't operate, Crucial to its success is the much appreciated help and support received by volunteers who freely give up their time to collect and sort the donations and make up the food parcels ready for distribution. WEFA has seen a significant increase in the number of people using its service with a wide demographic of people being referred due to a number of factors causing them to experience food poverty. The ethos of the project is to work with the contacts for as long as its necessary until their situation is resolved. We've had tremendous success in achieving this and therefore the project continues to grow from strength to strength . Coupled with that success is the need for us to develop further our partnership working with others which is why we are excited to be a part of the 'Neighbourly' scheme.
