Dream Earth Project

Watford, UK

At Dream Earth Project, our mission is to create a sustainable and equitable food system that prioritizes the reduction of food waste and the redistribution of surplus food to those in need. We strive to reduce the environmental impact of food waste by implementing composting and other sustainable solutions that return nutrients to the earth and promote healthy soil. Through community engagement and education, we aim to empower individuals to take action towards reducing food waste and building a more sustainable future. We recognize the interconnectedness of environmental and social issues and seek to promote holistic solutions that improve both the health of our planet and the wellbeing of our communities. At Dream Earth Project, we believe that every individual has a role to play in creating a more sustainable future, and we are committed to working together towards that vision. The Dream Earth Project (DEP) focuses on sustainable solutions for food surplus generated by local businesses in North and Northwest London and surrounding areas. The project has both environmental and social aspects, with the aim of preventing food waste and channeling food surplus to communities in need. DEP also aims to educate the wider public, including schools and businesses, about the issue of food waste. In addition to supporting communities, DEP aims to develop processes that help local authorities and supermarkets divert food waste from landfills to more environmentally friendly methods such as composting and producing substrates to grow mushrooms. The project intends to research and utilize alternative food waste solutions and create training materials for individuals and businesses to implement on a larger scale. DEP also plans to create a community garden in the future to teach people of all ages about the world of plants and how gardening can benefit mental wellbeing and strengthen people's commitment to the environmental cause. Currently, DEP provides food for a stall in Stanmore and a warehouse in Watford Wolsey Business Park, free open to everyone. The project also delivers food to those with limited means of transport and mobility problems. With the help of 60 dedicated volunteers DEP works directly with communities to support local schools, foodbanks, churches, mosques, and other causes. Random Cafe

Watford, UK

We are a not-for-profit waste food community cafe and shop. We have a community cafe serving hot and cold drinks, cakes, and food. Our large growing space supplies ingredients for our cafe and produce to sell in the summer. Anything we cannot use in the café is made available, on a pay as you feel basis, in our waste food shop. This helps raise funds to run our hub. Our core goals are reducing food waste, educating others on how they can reduce their waste.

Tottenham Foodbank

London, UK

The foodbank helps individuals and families in crisis through the provision of emergency food supplies. The circumstances surrounding a crisis are unique to every individual, so we partner with frontline care professionals, such as health visitors, social workers and other community-based support workers, who are able to identify and refer people facing hunger to the foodbank. As well as receiving nutritionally-balanced 3 day food parcels, people are welcomed with a cup of tea, listened to and signposted to agencies that are able to help resolve the underlying cause of the problem. Our foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s UK foodbank network, which last year collected more than 10,000 tonnes of food and gave over 1,084,604 three days’ food supplies to people in crisis of which over 396,000 went to children. A large proportion of this food came from Harvest collections throughout the UK, each providing for their local foodbank. Can you help? To donate food - please drop your food parcel off at Tottenham Town Hall, N15 4RY Monday to Friday between 11.30am and 5pm. Please press buzzer labelled Freedom’s Ark. Alternatively, we also have collection points at... - Tesco Stroud Green, N4 3PX. - Tesco Seven Sisters, N15 4AJ.
