Wilbury Community Cafe

Letchworth Garden City, UK

Wilbury Community Forum has been running a free cafe for five and half years to bring local people together in a part of Letchworth that doesn't have cafes or pubs. Currently we offer a cuppa and cake, arts and crafts, good quality pre-loved school uniforms, likewise house hold goods and clothing to go and offer a free bike surgery. In a second hall we hold a family play session followed by a gentle exercise class. Offering free food released by supermarkets for community distribution will be an added benefit to us all.

The Need Project Central Bedfordshire

Hitchin, UK

The Need Project collects food and other items for distribution to needy people in the Central Bedfordshire and surrounding area. We receive referrals from statutory agencies who are in contact with the people who are most in need. We are passionate about inclusion and being non-judgmental is central to what we do. We believe that everyone has the right to have food on their plate, dignity, skills, a chance to work and hope for the future.

Arlesey Community Larder CIC

Arlesey, UK

Hi we are Arlesey Community Larder CIC and we are here to support the local community with essential food basics and redistribute surplus food from the area to relieve food poverty. Our Larder currently runs from the Arlesey MUGA Pavilion Building We identify service users via our facebook page @arleseycommunitylarder and via citizens advice bureau Mid Bedfordshire and North Hertfordshire Citizens Advice Bureau. We also work in partnership with Arlesey Good Neighbours to identify service users. We have a localise advertising our services in local bus shelters, parish council noticeboards , we have a dedicated support line 07427650080 for confidential and non-judgemental chat and support. Arlesey Community Larder is predominately a food support service however we would development the 'community' element of the service to provide social hub for local residents This means collaborations with local groups in the parish to promote each others services. We do not charge for our service however we welcome donations for the upkeep of the larder basics. We currently receive surplus donations from local groups however we do not receive regular surplus from supermarkets which we are keen to tap into and we believe service users and the wider community will appreciate due to the parishes location. We have been awarded a ward councillors grant to support the upkeep and operations of the larder, we are currently finalising a article in the local residential magazine (Arlesey News) to support our larder We have been supported by Arlesey Town Council and Central Bedfordshire Council and Cllr Arkle is a regular volunteer at the larder, we have been awarded a grant from Central Bedfordshire Ward Councillors for the operations and upkeep of the larder We have donation points in the Arlesey Community Centre and WI Hall - we are in discussions for a donation point in Morrisons Letchworth Facebook @arleseycommunitylarder
