Holy Trinity Community Café – Supporting Our Neighbourhood Holy Trinity is a Parish Church located close to Chesterfield College. We offer a friendship Tea and Toast café as part of our commitment to being a warm, welcoming space for anyone in our community who may be feeling isolated, overwhelmed, or in need of support. We provide free breakfasts and hot drinks to anyone who needs them – no questions asked. People come to us for warmth, food, friendship, and conversation. Some come for a break from work, others for company, and many simply for a sense of belonging. We regularly welcome those who are lonely, homeless, or struggling in other ways. Our Tea and Toast café is also a space for signposting to other services, and we work in partnership with Chesterfield College and local mental health teams. We provide placements for students and create opportunities for shared learning, growth, and care. We offer access to a small emergency food bank and frozen supermarket meals.

Action was founded in 1977 by a group of staff from South Yorkshire Probation Service who recognised that a significant proportion of offenders have vulnerabilities and housing related needs that contribute to their offending behaviour. Our original services involved the provision of housing and support for ex-offenders in order to provide a platform for a different, more stable way of life and therefore reduce recidivism. Over the last 15 years we have developed our services and our remit to work with a variety of complex and specialist groups of vulnerable people: such as those with substance misuse, mental illness, victims of abuse and young people. In addition to helping people secure and maintain accommodation we also facilitate personal development; access to other services and opportunities; support and opportunity to find meaningful occupation and overall to help people change their lives for the better: reducing the cycle of hopelessness, risky behaviour and homelessness. Action currently operates across Mansfield, Derby, Derbyshire, Sheffield and Rotherham where we have an excellent reputation for local service delivery and a wide network of contacts across the statutory and voluntary sector. We are a progressive organisation; always seeking new ways to help vulnerable people develop their skills and opportunities to build a better future for themselves and play a more positive role in their communities. Action’s ethos is to work holistically with each individual customer. We consider their strengths and aspirations, involve them in decisions and ensure that they lead in the development of their support plans. We always aim to work in partnership with other agencies, seeking to minimise the disruption and intrusiveness of repeated interventions and information gathering, whilst ensuring customer safety. Designed to recognise the emotional journeys and enormous achievements that customers make in overcoming significant disadvantage, our motto is ‘Enabling our customers to achieve extraordinary things’. We have a number of supported accommodation sites and dispersed accommodation in addition to floating support services.

We support the most vulnerable in our community with food parcels each week To set up a Hut to serve residents in Newbold/Dunston and the surrounding areas, a place of building relationships and a place of safety, security; where everyone feels welcomed and supported. It will be a centre within the Newbold/Dunston area, catering for people of all ages and from all walks of life. The main purpose of the Hut will be a food distribution project during Covid 19 and beyond. It will be staffed by volunteers from the local area Where people who are needing support with their food can come and pick up a food parcel or we can deliver a parcel to them. We will support people in the Dunston, Newbold, Moor, New and Old Whittington areas. If people aren’t able to come to the Hut we will deliver out to them. Where eventually people can come to socialise and have a cuppa and do activities together. Where people can come to relax, have time to talk, know that someone is interested in them as a person, where people from all ages can come together to support each other, sharing interests and skills. Where people are signposted on to other agencies who can offer support.
