PALS (West Berkshire) was created in 1997 under the guidance of the charity Scope, to provide leisure and recreational activities for children and young people aged 5 to 18 with physical disabilities in the West Berkshire area. In 2000, the charity became fully independent and was given a charity number. We were founded to combat the extreme isolation that children and young people with physical disabilities can experience, and to reduce their exclusion from accessing opportunities that able-bodied children have access to. We offer a wide variety of social and leisure activities for children and young people aged 5 to 18. Activities take place after school and at weekends in term time, and throughout the week during the holidays. Children and young people are supported at activities by a team of trained volunteers and the PALS manager, who oversees the event, while parents can enjoy a much needed break. In addition, during the school holidays, we offer the opportunity to take part in residential trips. Activity costs are met by parents, but are kept to a minimum and often subsidised, especially for residential trips. We also have a Young Adults Group which has been running successfully for over ten years. This group take part in a variety of social events and some residential trips, but emphasis is placed on the individual to be as independent as possible. PALS (West Berkshire) exists to enrich the lives of children and young people with physical disabilities by providing fun, inclusive activities and respite support for families.

The Newbury Community Resource Centre Limited helps local people by providing furniture, household goods, training and services to support independent living. We help people to develop work and social skills, and encourage environmentally beneficial activities by promoting re-cycling and re-use. We also provide daily breakfast and lunch for the volunteers who attend the project.

Welcome to the Kiwa Centre, World Parrot Trust’s UK conservation and welfare program. ‘Helping parrots to survive in the wild and thrive in companion care’ The World Parrot Trust (WPT) is a pioneer in global parrot conservation and welfare, running highly effective programs protecting wild parrots - currently 80 species across 45 countries. Our work has multiple approaches including ground-breaking field research and conservation and habitat protection. We also support the rescue, rehabilitation and release of parrots caught in illegal trade. Our mission is also enriching the lives of companion parrots through education and outreach with parrot owners. Ensure every companion parrot is receiving the best welfare and care. This is where the Kiwa Centre comes in! A story of a boy and his bird... In 2017, Kiwa and her parrot friends were trapped in heart-breaking conditions, suffering from neglect and improper care, due to overbreeding for the pet trade. With health issues such as overgrown beaks, deformities from cramped cages, and respiratory issues from poor air quality. They had no hope or opportunity to be parrots. That is, until people like you stepped in to help! When Joe Davenport discovered the dire state of his childhood pet, Kiwa, he knew he had to save her and hundreds of other parrots. Together with the World Parrot Trust, a massive rescue mission took place. The first glimpse of hope. These efforts created the Kiwa Centre, where Kiwa and her companions have been given a second chance at life, receiving care and rehabilitation. But their journey isn’t over – and this is where you come in. By supporting the Kiwa Centre, you become their hero. Help our magnificent macaws to thrive in a safe, enriched environment. These birds aren’t just survivors – they’re ambassadors, showing the world the importance of compassion and conservation. In 2020, we welcomed 40 Grey Parrots that were saved from the illegal wildlife trade. Taken from the wild and trafficked in horrific conditions. They are now at Kiwa Centre, before being repatriated back to Africa. We love our Greys but cannot wait to see them return to the wild! Join us in giving these parrots the life they deserve.
